Cultural Traditions

What to Expect

A guide to the meaningful moments woven throughout the weekend

Grant and Sabrina’s wedding weekend brings together two traditions, two families, and a shared celebration by the sea. This guide is here to help guests feel comfortable, informed, and excited as they experience the Indian wedding traditions included throughout the weekend. No prior knowledge is needed. Guests are invited to participate where guided, observe with respect, and enjoy the beauty, color, music, and meaning behind each celebration.

The Baraat

Grant’s Processional

A joyful arrival filled with music, movement, and celebration

The Baraat is one of the most energetic and celebratory moments of an Indian wedding. Traditionally, it marks the groom’s arrival to the ceremony, surrounded by family and friends. For Grant and Sabrina’s wedding, guests will gather at the Center Court Loggia and join Grant as he processes through Center Court to Palm Terrace. Expect music, dancing, and a lively sense of anticipation as everyone makes their way together toward the ceremony. Guests do not need to know any specific steps or customs in advance. Simply follow the music, join the celebration, and enjoy the moment.

Guests are welcome to dance, clap, cheer, walk along, or simply take it all in.

The Hindu Ceremony

Sacred Traditions Beneath the Mandap

A ceremony honoring Sabrina’s Indian heritage and the joining of two families

The Hindu Ceremony is rich with meaning, symbolism, and family participation. Rather than a single exchange of vows, the ceremony is often made up of several sacred rituals that represent love, commitment, blessings, prosperity, and the couple’s shared life ahead. Guests may witness prayers, offerings, family blessings, floral garlands, and symbolic rituals beneath the mandap, the ceremonial structure where the couple and their families gather. Some moments may feel joyful and celebratory, while others may feel quiet, sacred, and reflective. It is perfectly okay if every ritual is new to you. Guests are invited to observe respectfully and enjoy the meaning, color, and family connection woven throughout the ceremony.

The Sangeet

Music, Dancing, and Celebration

A joyful pre-wedding celebration with family and friends

The Sangeet is one of the most festive events of an Indian wedding weekend. Traditionally, it is centered around music, dancing, and celebration with both families. Some Sangeets include performances, songs, or dances prepared by loved ones, while others simply create space for everyone to gather and enjoy the energy of the evening. For Grant and Sabrina’s wedding weekend, the Sangeet is a chance to celebrate by the beach, enjoy the music, and continue bringing both families and guest communities together before the wedding day.
